Why a Personal Image Deserves Archival Treatment
A photo sitting on a phone or in a folder rarely gets experienced at its full potential. Printed on 100% cotton archival paper with pigment inks rated for over 70 years, the same photograph becomes something that holds up on a wall for decades rather than a season. For collectors, this means giving a treasured photograph, a destination shot, or an original composition the presentation it was always worth. For interior designers, it closes a gap even the deepest art catalogue cannot: the client's own photograph, the hotel's historical image, the restaurant's commissioned visual, produced to the same standard as everything else in the room.

Five Formats, Chosen for the Image, Not the Wall
The Private Edition offers five aspect ratios rather than one all-purpose size, because a photograph's composition should decide its format, not the other way around.

- A square crop compresses a photograph into equal proportions, which works when the composition is centered and self-contained.
- A 1.25 ratio is a gentler elongation, useful when an image needs a bit more breathing room in one direction without stretching it into something it isn't.
- A 1.5 ratio is the full 35mm frame, the proportion most travel and portrait photography was actually composed for, and it tends to be the truest fit when the original image was shot on a standard camera rather than cropped after the fact.
Choosing between them starts with the photograph's original composition, not with the wall it's destined for.
What Happens Before Your Image Is Printed
Uploading is only the first step. Before production begins, our studio reviews every file for resolution, color profile, and proportion at the selected size:
- Resolution. A minimum of 150 dpi at final print size, with 300 dpi recommended for the sharpest detail. A 24 x 30 inch print, for example, calls for a file of at least 3600 x 4500 pixels.
- Color profile. sRGB or Adobe RGB; our studio color-manages every file before it goes to press.
- File integrity. Original, uncompressed files whenever possible. Screenshots and heavily compressed social media downloads rarely hold up at scale.
When a file needs more resolution than it currently has, we use specialized image-enhancement software to increase printable detail. This does not redesign, retouch, or alter the image's character. It simply gives the file more information to work with. If a file still isn't suitable for the requested size, we contact you before production and recommend the best available option.

Presentation and Framing
Once your file is approved, you choose how it's presented within the frame: full bleed for an immersive, edge-to-edge look suited to landscapes and architectural photography, matted for the structure and breathing room that favors portraits and archival images, white border for a clean contemporary photographic look, or floated for a suspended, gallery-like effect. Every option is completed as a shadowbox-style frame with UV-protective acrylic glazing, then finished in one of four frame choices: Matte White, Matte Black, Natural Wood, or Dark Wood.

Your Image, Handled with Care
Files submitted through The Private Edition are used solely to review and produce your order. You must own the image or hold the rights to reproduce it, and client files, commissioned photography, or private images should only be submitted with the relevant copyright holder's permission. Nothing you upload is added to our collections or shared beyond your order.
