CURATOR’S TIP FOR ARCHIVAL PAPER MUSEUM QUALITY PRINTING

Our fine art printer creates all our prints to the highest industry standards. The Picturalist works exclusively with fully archival Epson inkjet pigments on cotton rag paper. Known as giclée, this printing method exceeds the level of quality obtained by digital C-prints or screen printing, to produce extraordinary color accuracy and unparalleled detail. We do not crop or otherwise alter our artists’ images.

2- CHOOSE YOUR FRAME

The Picturalist offers you many stylish framing options. To view how your artwork looks with a chosen frame, just click on the drop-down selection of frame types offered.

Check the finish used in most of your room furniture. Establish which color is predominant. You can match that color with the framing you choose:

  • White framing works best with contemporary decor.
  • Black frames work best in decor where black is used as an accent and a stark contrast is wanted.
  • Natural wood suits Scandinavian-inspired decor as well as some mid-20th century settings.
  • Dark frames with a gold accent work very well in traditional rooms or with decor where brass is used in accessories.
  • Silver frames are ideal with chrome furniture.
  • Abstract images or photography—printed on acrylic or aluminum supports, or framed or unframed gallery-style—work best in contemporary spaces.
  • If you are creative and have a strong sense of design, you can mix and match subjects and frames. You can create combinations that work in eclectic spaces. For example, traditional architectural prints are stunning when framed in contemporary white frames. Abstract art looks beautiful when framed with gold accents.

CURATOR’S TIP FOR FRAMING

Proper framing enhances your artwork and preserves its value for future generations. We custom fit your print using the best framing materials. We enhance each piece with acid-free mats for archival soundness. We then carefully pack your piece with Plexiglass fronts to prevent breakage or scratching during transit. Your new artwork arrives safely, picture-perfect and wall-ready.

CURATOR’S TIP ARCHIVAL MAT FRAMING

Archival acid-free mats and backings preserve the life of your print. The acid given off by poor quality mats causes paper breakdown and color fade. The Picturalist’s archival mats and backing protect your work by adding space between the Plexiglass front and the print so they do not touch and cause damage. The acid-free backing keeps dirt and dust out of the frame.

3- CHOOSE YOUR TYPE

The Picturalist offers different types of support:

  • Archival paper
  • Canvas
  • Acrylic
  • Metal (Aluminium)
  • Back-lit

Our prints are professionally framed with wood moldings and archival UV plexi-glass. They come ready to hang on your wall with a premium hanging wire.

Prints can be framed with a 2.75" white mat, or without.

CURATOR’S TIP FOR ACRYLIC FACE-MOUNTING

Sleek and modern acrylic face-mounting protects your art while giving it sculpture-like depth and vibrant color. It adds a third dimension to your artwork to create a “stand off the wall” effect. And it preserves your print in a stunning display that protects it against dirt, aging, and scratches. If you're looking for a flawless and frameless way to display artwork this is your ideal solution.

We print and heat-seal our face-mounted works on 1/4 inch Plexiglas®. All face-mounts feature an aluminum brace and a French cleat on the back to prevent warping in humidity. This labor intensive process requires high-end materials to achieve museum quality results.

CURATOR’S TIP ALUMINUM FACE-MOUNTING

Sleek and modern aluminum face-mounting protects your art while giving it sculpture-like metallic depth and a soft, brushed appearance. It adds a third dimension to your artwork to create a “stand off the wall” effect. And it preserves your print in a stunning display that protects it against dirt, aging, and scratches.

If you're looking for a flawless and frameless way to display artwork outdoors, this is your ideal solution.

We print and UV heat-seal our face-mounted works. All face-mounts feature an aluminum brace and a French cleat on the back to prevent warping in humidity.

4- CHOOSE YOUR SIZE

Each artwork description indicates available sizes. Carefully measure the area where your artwork will fit. Judge the ideal size of your artwork on your wall using green masking tape.

Listed sizes refer to the size of the framed product, not the paper. All prints feature a 1/2 inch white border around the image to allow for matting and framing.

5- CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (Limited Collection Only)

Each piece of our Limited Edition numbered collection includes a card of authenticity mounted to its back. Each print comes with a certificate of authenticity containing the title of the work, the unique edition number, and the artist’s signature.

6- SHIPPING, DELIVERY AND EXCHANGES

The Picturalist does not accept returns. Works damaged in transit may be exchanged on a case by case basis. Please email us as soon as you receive the damaged work at claims@thepicturalist.com or call 1(833) 742-8872.

We stand behind our art with a 100% quality guarantee. The Picturalist color matches every print to its artists' source files and fully authenticates every piece.

Though rare, occasional FedEx transit damage happens and is out of our control. But we are happy to work with you to immediately resolve any damage issue that might occur.

Please note that we work hard to ensure that all images display accurately. Screen resolutions and brightness may reflect subtle variations in the final printed edition.

7- CARING FOR YOUR ART

An archival frame best protects your art. Flat or rolled print storage invites damage. Acid-free framing materials prevent deterioration. Plexiglas fronts are more durable and much stronger than glass, which risks breakage and can destroy your artwork.

To clean your frame, use a soft cloth and computer screen cleaner. When handling your print, use soft cloth gloves. Always have clean hands when touching the print directly. Pull the print out of its tube carefully. Do not pull by the end. If you are having the work framed on your own, let the framer remove the work from the tube for you as they are skilled art handlers.

CURATOR’S TIP FOR CARING YOUR ART

Even if your artwork is archivally framed, room placement may affect its longevity. You may be tempted to place your artwork on the mantel above your fireplace. But keep in mind that this placement may subject your artwork to extreme heat and possibly smoke. Displaying your piece on a wall that receives direct sunlight is also a less than ideal. By limiting the amount of direct light your artwork will be subject to, you can increase its lifespan, hopefully for many generations to come.
